Physical Therapy

Physical therapists (PTs)

Physical therapists (PTs) are health care professionals who diagnose and treat individuals of all ages, from newborns to the very oldest, whom have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. Physical Therapy is recommended for treating injuries involving muscles, joints, bones and other soft tissue injuries. It is also implemented in cases of circulatory, respiratory and neurological conditions, illness and other diseases. PTs examine each individual and develop a plan using treatment techniques to promote mobility, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability, before it occurs by developing fitness- and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles. The heart of the physical therapy profession is the understanding of how and why movement and function take place.

Following your evaluation, your Physical therapist will prepare an individualized treatment plan based on the results of the examination. We encourage each client to assume responsibility for their health and participate in a team approach to care. Research has shown that a patient who gets involved gets better quicker. At SOS PHYSIO  your treatment in physical therapy will include Manual Therapy ,  ART, flexibility and strength exercises, improvements in muscle imbalances and weaknesses, balance and coordination training, movement correction, gait retraining and if necessary the use of electrotherapy modalities (IFC ,TENS, Ultrasound), and more.

At SOS PHYSIO, our Physical Therapists are all members of the Florida board of physical therapy and are all post university graduates (DPT). They are dedicated to providing client-focused treatment. Physical Therapy is a direct access service and does not require the referral of a physician; however certain health reimbursement plans require a physician’s diagnosis before claims can be accepted.

If you have any questions on physical therapy, please contact your local SOS PHYSIO center and ask to speak to a Physical Therapist.

A physical therapist performs these tasks using hands-on Manual Therapy, ART, Neuromuscular Education, Therapeutic Exercises or Activities and Electrotherapy Modalities in partnership with you, your doctor or other allied health professionals involved in the treatment. They assess, treat and educate patients from babies to the elderly. They develop an individualized plan for your recovery based on evidence and scientifically tested techniques to help treat the condition, ailment or injury that is limiting your ability to participate in a sport, perform your job or limits your daily tasks.

A treatment of physical therapy involves a thorough assessment including a medical history questionnaire, and evaluation of your pain, your ability to move the affected area, strength, reflexes, sensation and specific tests. Your Physical therapist will also examine x-rays, laboratory tests, medical records, doctor’s notes and post surgical recommendations.
