The shoulder blades—medically known as the scapulae—are the triangular-shaped bones on the back of the shoulders. Each shoulder blade connects the upper back which sticks out and becomes more visible when you extend your elbows towards your back. The shoulder blades have many functions, one of which is to support pivotal movements of the shoulder.
As the shoulder does move in many ways, it is easy to injure, which can cause shoulder blade pain.
Shoulder blade pain is a very common experience that isn’t anything to worry about, but unfortunately in some cases, it is a sign of serious conditions, such as heart attack or liver problems or lung cancer. There are many other potential causes, ranging from degenerative disc disease to arthritis, to gallbladder disease, or even shingles.
People in shoulder blade pain have dull,
sore, or shooting pain in the upper part of their back between their shoulder
blades. It is caused by tight muscles & trigger points in the region of the
shoulder girdle.
