A heel spurs is a foot condition created by a calcium deposit causing a bony protrusion on the underside of the heel bone. Heel spurs often start in the front of your heel and eventually affect other parts of your foot.
Although heel spurs are often painless, they can cause heel pain. They often start in the front of your heel and eventually affect other parts of your foot. They are frequently associated with plantar fasciitis, a painful inflammation of the fibrous band of connective tissue (plantar fascia) that runs along the bottom of the foot and connects the heel bone to the ball of the foot.
Causes of Heel Spurs
- arthritis
- bruising of the heel
- running or jogging
- excess body weight or obesity
- wearing flip-flops too often
- poorly fitted or badly worn shoes
- spending most of the day on one’s feet
- worn-out shoes
- walking gait abnormalities
- diabetes
Symptoms of

- pain under your heel in the morning or after resting.
- when palpate the tender area you may feel a tender bony
lump. - heel pain will worse with the first steps and improves
with activity as it warms up.
