Overview
Patellar tendonitis, also known as jumper’s knee, is an injury or inflammation of the tendon connecting your kneecap (patella) to your shinbone (tibia). Your pain may be mild or severe. The patellar tendon works with the muscles at the front of your thigh to extend your knee so that you can run, kick & jump.
Patellar tendonitis is a frequent injury of athletes, whose sports involve frequent jumping especially those who play volleyball & basketball. However, even some people who don’t participate in jumping sports can also get patellar tendonitis.

Causes
Patellar tendonitis is caused by repeated stress on your patellar tendon, most often from overuse in sports or exercise. The stress results in tiny tears in the tendon, over time, inflame and weaken the tendon. But as the tears in the tendon multiply, they cause pain from inflammation & weakening of the tendon.
