Rheumatoid arthritis is a long-term, progressive & chronic auto-immune disorder that can affect more than just your joints. It causes swelling, inflammation & pain in the hands, feet, wrists, elbows, knees & ankles, also other body organs as well including the skin, eyes, lungs, heart and blood vessels. It usually involves the same joints on both sides of the body or symmetrical.
This occurs when your immune system mistakenly attacks your own body’s tissues. Unlike the wear-and-tear damage of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis affects the lining of your joints, causing a painful swelling that can eventually result in loss of cartilage, and the joint spacing between bones can become smaller.
