What is Multiple Sclerosis (MS)?
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a potentially disabling disease that causes demyelination of the brain, spinal cord (central nervous system) and the optic nerves in your eyes which can cause problems with balance, vision, muscle control, and other basic body functions.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) happens when your immune system attacks called myelin (a fatty material), which covers your nerve fibers to protect them. Without this outer shell, your nerves become damaged as it causes communication problems between your brain and the rest of your body, your nerves also don’t work as they should to help you move and feel.
Eventually, the disease MS can cause the nerves themselves to deteriorate or become permanently damaged. Signs and symptoms of MS vary from person to person as it depends on the amount of nerve damage and which nerves are affected. Some may lose the ability to walk, while others may experience long periods of remission without any new symptoms. There’s no cure for multiple sclerosis. However, physical therapy treatments can help in speed recoveries from attacks & helps in modifying the course of the disease and manage symptoms.

Causes of Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
The cause of MS is unknown as it is not clear why MS develops in some people and not others but there are many things that seem to make the disease more likely. A combination of genetics and environmental factors may seem to be responsible. People with certain genes may have higher chances of getting it. Smoking also may raise the risk, some people may get MS after they’ve had a viral infection that makes their immune system stop working normally, vitamin D deficiency can also be the reason; even consuming too much salt is being looked at as possible causes. However, none of these theories has been proven, and the cause of MS remains unknown. While MS is considered as an autoimmune disorder, the exact cause hasn’t yet been found. It’s not contagious, and can’t be passed from person to person.
